when using a fetal doppler?

Hi
I just bought an angelsounds fetal doppler, and just wondered how hard you should press down on your tummy? obviously, i dont want to hurt the baby, but i think you need to press fairly firmly to pick up the heartbeat?? Im 14 weeks, and 4 days gone, also, what should the heart rate be?

You do have to press firmly but don’t press so hard that you hurt yourself, and the further along you get you wont have to press hard. The heart rate for my baby around 14 weeks was 156 but it can vary, my friends baby had a heart rate of 173.
