It depends on the quality/cost of the doppler. It should say somewhere on the box or in the instructions when you can expect to pick up the heartbeat. If you bought it at Wal-Mart or somewhere similar and spent less than $50, I wouldn't count on being able to hear it until well into the third trimester. I got lucky and my sister bought me one at a medical supply store...the brand is BabySounds and I have been able to pick up the heartbeat since about 24 weeks.

Just remember, you get what you pay for, and those things cause a lot of mommies-to-be a lot of undue stress!

i would have said 15 weeks as because your inexperianced with using a doppler machine you could hear your own heartbeat and think its babies as at that stage you wont know where baby is as he or she will be very very tiny

i had 1 that claimed form 9weeks but i 1st tried at 11 weeks and found it.however dont become to reliant/hooked on using it as i did and became quite hysterical when i couldnt find it for 3days at about 15weeks,that much that i went to hospital for emergency scan!
i tried again at 18weeks and was succesful but couldnt again the week after. my partner banned me from using it as i was obv causing myself unneccessary stress.

I've always heard around 16weeks with an at-home doppler (much sooner with the one they use at the doctor's office). So if you don't hear it at 10 don't panic. Your baby could just be in a funny position:-)
