What should I do? Please, I am ready to cry! I just got my fetal doppler today…?
and I can hear the heartbeat, which is very cool. I am 9 weeks and 1 day today, but the digital display indicates between 88-93. I think it’s supposed to be higher than that. I’m not sure what I should do…should I call my doctor? (I have an ultrasound next Tuesday and I’ll be close to 10 weeks) Besides the fact that my husband is (again) being insensitive and I’m fighting back the tears, I need some support. I feel fine otherwise, no bleeding or spotting, no cramping…I would otherwise think this is a normal pregnancy. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
I got the fetal doppler from www.Heartones.com

are you sure its not your heartbeat you are hearing.. the dopplers that "we" can but are not that good LOL dont be discouraged, everything will be just fine, the doctor was surprised when he found mine at 10 weeks we had to play around with it for a while then finally found it ! DONT WORRY
where did you get you fetal doppler from?
uhhhhh call ur dr. asap
The home dopplers don’t work as good as the doctor’s. Don’t worry too much.
that seems low, but dont panic because it is probably the doppler. i didnt even think those worked until further along. call you doctor though and tell her you are nervous and see if she can get you in.
I think your possibly going to do more harm worrying about it. Personally I d bin the Doppler and just wait until your midwife does it. Some times it is difficult for them to find a heart beat because of how baby is lying. Sleep and rest tonight and go and see them tomorrow xx
Wow I’m surprise that the doppler would work this early on in the pregnancy. The one my mother in law got us said on the manual that its best during 3rd trimester so we took it back.
I honestly think your baby is fine … especially no blood or spotting. Even for professional doppler that the doc uses sometimes they can’t find heart beat. And that’s a real EXPENSIVE ones.
Try to stay calm, if you really worry go into the doc.
I can almost guarantee you are hearing your heartbeat because that is the same as when I get my heart beat. I have a doppler monitor, that same one as at the doctors office.
YOu will find your heartbeat on the right or the left side. there are major arteries there.
Has your doctor been able to get a reading on their doppler yet? if not you may not be able to hear it for another week or so.
You need to make sure you are pushing the probe down by your pelvic area.
I would take it to your doc and have them show you how to use it so you don’t worry yourself.
The babies heartbeat sounds different, it’s ALOT faster.
GO 2 DOCTOR
i dont think those dopplers show a acurate rate intill your 10 weeks as they say not to use them till then i wouldent worry im gettin mine soon
x
i’m surprised you could even hear anything. they do early sonos because the heartbeat cannot be detected on the dopplar. i just had another sono last tues( 16 weeks) to hear the heartbeat. i bet what it is is it is so faint that the dopplar is only picking up 1/2 of the beats or so. or it is so faint that you can’t hear it. i wouldn’t worry at all.
Most women accidentally pick up their own heartbeat when trying to use a doppler. You can tell it’s not your baby’s because your baby’s will be very high. If you check your pulse at the same time as you listen to it, it will probably show you that you’re listening to your own, as they would be in sync.
Babies at this time have just only formed a heartbeat, plus with them being so tiny it is amazing that one can actually hear it. I went to the doctor at 7 weeks and we only had a flutter, which is not yet an actual heartbeat, only the forming of one. And again at 9 weeks, we still had another week to go before it was okay. Don’t worry, your baby is fine. The first thing to develope isn’t the heart anyways, it’s the kidneys.
I am having a baby boy in 12 weeks and his heartbeat has been around 170-180 since about 16 weeks, until just recently, this is because the heart is getting bigger also. I would not worry about it.
You may need to also make sure it is the babies heartbeat you are getting also and not your own. Since, most grown adults’ heartbeats are between 80-120 when resting.
I wouldn’t worry, and congradulations!
Wait until next Tuesday. I’m sorry your husband is not more supportive. We guys tend to be like that. My wife is irritated with me because I’ve been gruff with my infant son who keeps me up all night. I work, my wife doesn’t. I tell her she should take care of the baby while I sleep since I have to work. She says she "works" too by taking care of my son during the day.
I’d say it’s just the doppler. My boyfriend works in smyths and he got me one when I was pregnant and it was useless. The doctors one is better. Another thing could be that your not using it in the right place. My doctor had trouble finding my sons when i was pregnant
I am going to assume that you have an at home doppler? First off if you are just a few weeks pregnant, its probably a good chance that you are picking up your own heartbeat right now instead of the babies. At my first appt with my Dr we did an ultrasound and could see the heart beating on the screen but my dr didn’t even use a doppler on me until I was over 15 weeks and it took a while for her to find it which before she even started she explained that its hard to find because they are so tiny…and that was 6 weeks past where you are now. I wouldn’t worry, I would still call my Dr and see what they say but again I would assume that you were hearing your own heatbeat. Also a fetal heartbeat really doesn’t sound like a heart beat at all
I agree that you are hearing your own heartbeat. I did the exact same thing when I first got mine!! Just make sure you use TONS of ultrasound gel….and whenever you hear your heartbeat…..move very slowly towards your pubic bone. The heartbeat will be detected VERY low. You may hear yours for a while until you really know how to work the machine, but at first you may hear your baby’s heartbeat in the background as a softer, faster beat. When you hear that softer faster beat, take your doppler wand, and angle it more down and towards your pubic bone. After a while, you’ll find it very easy to find just the baby’s…..
Oh, and the baby’s will be between 130 and 160’s…..
Calm down and take a deep breath……hold it in……..now let it out slowly. Now do it again. Okay.
The first thing you need to do is check your own pulse (heart rate) and see what it is. It is very common for a doppler unit to pick up the mom’s heartbeat rather easily. It takes a bit more experience and work to find and detect a fetal heart rate. While you can sometimes (emphasis on SOMETIMES) hear the baby’s heartbeat as early as 8 to 10 weeks it is not always audible that early. The sensitivity of the doppler and position of your utuerus can be factors that affect the ability to hear the baby’s heart rate. With the heart rate being 88-93 I suspect the doppler is picking up your heart rate and not the baby’s. Put the doppler away until after you go for your ultrasound! You do not need to stress or worry as it is not good for either of you adn it sounds like you already have enough of that from your husband right now. After you find out everything is fine at your U/S appointment try the doppler again. I am pretty sure that you picked up your own heart rate! Relax and try not to stress out!
more than likely it’s your heartrate. a fetus at that age will have a high heartbeat around the 150’s. put the doppler higher up around your belly button. if it’s lower it picks up your heart beat easier.
your baby should be fine. Those dopples are not usullay to be used until after 12 weeks. Try it a few more times, then I would also just check your own heart rate if it is 88-93 then the doppler is picking up your own heart rate. Sorry about your hubby it would be nice if he could help you out right now.
If you cant stop worrying then call your doc. But I am 100% sure you are okay. Personally I want to purchase a doppler but I am afraid I will get off/on responses and freak out like you are.
My babies heart rate was 183 today! Well I bet if I checked it again later it would be something else. you have nothing to be worried about! Take care
