What should baby’s HR be at 9 weeks and I am using this doppler right?…?
I just bought a BF500++ Fetal Doppler with display. I am 9 and a half weeks. I dont have a scan until I’m 13 weeks unfortunately and didn’t want to wait that long to make sure I could hear heartbeat. I got the doppler today and quickly tried to use it at lunchtime from work. It was picking up heartbeat as it was going from 000 to 127 and above, but kept fluctuating, and it did move about, so had to find it quite a lot, could this of caused the difference in readings, I was just expecting one reading and that was it. What should the heart rate be at this stage? and what happens if it picks up that it’s a little slower than it should be? Any tips on using them, ie do I need lots of gel on? Do I need to lie down? Etc. Any help would be gratefully received.
Why are some people saying I won’t be able to hear it till after 13 weeks, thats not right at all, everyone’s different, and it certainly wasn’t my heartbeat, unless I’d been running beforehand! Its a medical doppler that is used by midwives so it will work earlier, I just wanted to clarify roughly what the heartbeat should be, as it did register on the monitor quite a lot.
Didn’t really sound like a heartbeat, just noise, strange, but nice :oD
To the nurse who commented - so nobody at 9 and a half weeks has ever picked up a heartbeat on a medical doppler, complete rubbish!!! I know a lot of people who have, what exactly was it reading then if not a heartbeat!? and why is it a waste of money, it’s something to keep to listen to your baby right till it arrives, why is that a waste of money!? Lets hope I never get treated by someone as cold as you - mind you, the amount of nurses I’ve met in the last 2 months (nothing related to my pregnancy) my grandad’s illness and then passing and going by your comment, you’re all the same!!!!
Thanks for everyone thats been helpful and given me tips - and to those who haven’t I hope you never ask for help or hints. I’m only excited, isn’t that natural, I don’t expect ‘god’ or ‘waste of money’ to be thrown in my face!

120-180 is ideal. It will fluctuate. If you drink something cold before usually the HR picks up. I’m not familiar with your doppler, but if it is a cheaper one, you may not always be able to pick up the HR, especially this early. It may cause you to panic. My nurse at the dr office told me at 10w4d that she may not beable to find it (she did) and that that was common. So don’t get to upset if you can’t find it all the time. Good luck.
You are tempting fate. Put it away!
it will change depending on the baby’s movement- that’s normal. soudnds fine.
You wont be able to hear a heartbeat until about 13-15 weeks. Doctors dont even try to hear a heartbeat until then. Your baby is so small right now that it is pretty much impossible to hear a heartbeat.
You can begin to monitor your baby’s heartbeat anytime after the 10th week of pregnancy. However, it may be difficult for you to hear the beat before the 12th week.
I think that you could be picking up your own heartbeat.
stop flying in gods face put it away and enjoy a healthy pregnancy your only 9 weeks still very early for anything to be found by you or your doctors
What you have to be careful with of those is getting your heart set on hearing the heartbeat and not being able to find it. It is very common to not hear it yet with those so don’t worry and get really stressed if you can’t find a heartbeat. That being said, how exciting that you can try and hear it at any time! The average heartbeat is 120-160 bpm. With the baby being so small and hard to detect the heartbeat this early, I would say getting a reading of 127 is pretty good. You only need a little gel on the part that touches your belly, not a ton. You’ll have to play around with positions as you try to use it sometimes laying down will help, other times you won’t find it laying down. Have fun!
your baby is still lying below your pelvic bone so there is noway you will hear a heart beat yet, plus they are a waste of money
i agree with the first answer that you are tempting fate a little. also to get a better reading i would honestly wait till around 11-12 weeks. I think the heart rate is supposed to be like 150. and to the nurse - i think you need to go back to uni and study manors. i think your answer was not only rude but not useful in any way. Keep your nasty comments to yourself, and i pity your patients.
