I have seen them for purchase at stores like Babies R Us; but why waste the money they aren't medical grade & I get to hear the heartbeat every time I visit the doctor & if the baby isn't moving you should know that something isn't right and contact your doctor. My advice is save the money and buy diapers or bottles or formula -- things you know you will need!

Why would you need one? I would say that unless your doctor specifically suggests that it would be a good idea, that you don't rent one.

I used mine 2-5 times a day at first then after about the 4th month I used it about 1-2 times a day I was told there are no side effects to the baby and it's so cool and reassuring to hear that wonderfull sound and knowing that baby is doing fine

I bought one of the bebe sounds prenatal heart listener, I started using it at 9 weeks, and just use it about once a week. It's pretty cool. I got mine off ebay for under 20. I have heard great things about the ones that you can rent, but here is another thought. Instead of spending the 20-25 a month to rent it, you can buy a cheaper one off ebay for about 70 and then sell it when you are done.

EDIT: just re-read where you already have one. Sorry about that!
