question about fetal dopplers….?
I bought a fetal doppler and I had a question to anyone thats used them or had them used on them. When I first opened and turned on the doppler it made a lot of normal static like noise like it was listening for something or trying to listen for something. Then when I actually laid down and tried to use it, I put gel on it and me and cut it on and it doesn’t make ANY noise at all. Complete silence. I haven’t had one used on me yet so I don’t know if it is normal for it to be silent until you find the heart beat or if its supposed to make the noise like when its looking for it? If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I just need to know if the machine is faulty or if I just don’t know how it works yet!
Thanks,
Kimberly

It will screach if you have it on without gel. Once you put gel on and start moving it around on your skin it’s for the most part quiet. You may hear some gushing (your blood pumping) or your heartbeat or the babies if you find it. But overall, it’s quiet until you hit certain spots. It shouldn’t be completely silent. There should always be a quiet static like sound to let you know it’s on. Make sure you’re searching really low, like around where your pubic hairline is. Angle it in different directions and use plenty of gel. It may take a bit to get used to but you’ll find it eventually.
Those "at home doppler’s" don’t really work until your much further along -
I’m guessing since your Dr. hasn’t tried yet that your in your 1st trimester still
The at home ones work better once your in your 3rd trimester
