just found out last wk that im pregnant (4 HPT’s and one at the doc’s clinic)not sure how far along i am though since my period was so irregular they will have to do an ultrasound to figure that out. im on the heavier side so im thinking maybe that was hindering it, could that be the case ?or im just trying to relieve myself. any advise?

You have to be around 10 weeks+ to hear the heartbeat with a doppler. Even then it’s hard to find sometimes. My doctor didn’t even try to find my baby’s until I was 13 weeks. I would not worry at all. You will probably see and hear it on the ultrasound. Of course, you have to be about 6 weeks or more for that even.
not uncommon to not hear heart beat till around 9 weeks!!!
You cant hear the babys heartbeat till you are around 10-12 weeks along..i would request an ultrasound
In early stages of pregnancy usually can’t pick up the hb. don’t worry, i’ve had 3 and wasn’t till later that it picked up.
it’s probably very early in your pregnancy so don’t worry
talk to your doctor for another check in a few weeks once you know hwo far ahead you are, you can also ask a doctor online for free and find others with similar situations, try this website, FertilityTies
good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!
you could be to early to find a heart beat and yes because you are bigger then it will effect the detection also were the baby is laying it can effect it. your baby should be fine
My doctor didnt even try to find it on the doppler until 12 weeks, he said it would have been pointless before then. Best of luck to you, try not to stress yourself out too much about it, it’s not good for you or the baby.
You can’t usually get a heartbeat on Doppler until atleast 12 wks sometimes later. The ultrasound will show a heartbeat if you are atleast 7 wks. If you are to early into the pregnancy you won’t see anything on ultrasound and there will be no heartbeat to be heard.
I am heavier and it was 16 weeks before my OB could find it with the doppler. Normally they can find it at around 12 weeks, and it can be longer if your heavier or tipped uterus. But I had 2 ultrasounds before 16 weeks, so knew everythign was ok, and heard the heart beat then.Good luck and dont’ worry to much. I am surprised they haven’t ordered an ultrasound, due to not knowing how far along you are.
Don’t worry! When I had my 12 week appointment my Dr. couldn’t find the heartbeat on the doppler and had to do an ultrasound to make sure the baby was ok. I didn’t hear the heartbeat for the first time on doppler until I was 16 weeks.
usually they don’t even try to hear it until 9-10 weeks I would not worry about it
Its still very early to hear the heartbeat. What did your doctor tell you?
Dont stress. Its so hard to hear the heartbeat before 9 weeks. We didnt hear our baby’s heartbeat at our first appoint. It wasnt until our 9 week appt and even then it took a long time to find it and it was so faint. I am 17 weeks now and at my last appt last week it took the doctor about 10 min to find the heartbeat because the baby was SOOOO low. Dont panic yet its still probably too early!
My doctor tried to hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks ,but was unable to. I heard it at my next doctors appointment a month later and it has been strong since then. Good Luck
31 weeks pregnant with Delia May
I think it could be a combination of things…since you do not know how far along you are you might not be far enough along to hear a heartbeat with a dopplar…and you said you are heavier and I think that has something to do with it.
I don’t recall having any trouble finding a dopplar heartbeat on my older 2 kids, but I was pretty skinny when I got pregnant with them. I was 20-25 pounds heavier when I got pregnant with my toddler. They did an US at 8, 12, and 16 weeks to find a heartbeat. at 16 weeks the little bugger made an obscene gesture at the tech and flipped out of US range…they could not find him again and gave up after like 15 more minutes. finally at 20 weeks they managed to dopplar him.
It might just be too early. I know that if you have extra weight in your mid-section that it can be a lot harder to pick up the heartbeat with the doppler early on in the pregnancy. Even if you are skinny, the heartbeat can’t be picked up via doppler until at least 10 weeks.
You dr should be able to do an ultrasound and see the heartbeat that way starting at around 6-8 weeks.
Good luck.
I didn’t hear mine until 13 weeks, so it’s completely normal
i didnt get to hear the heartbeat until like 11 weeks. it all depends on the position of your uterus and how far along you are.
