Last doctors appointment was when I was 9.5 weeks….what will happen next visit?
I will be having my next visit June 3rd, I’ll be 13 weeks. I had my whole physical last visit, numerous swabs and tests etc. I had my ultrasound at 8.5 weeks and the technician told me the fetal heart rate was 160 bpm, but he never let me hear it… actually, I forgot to even ask :S OOPS! Anyway, I was wondering what my 13 weeks visit with my doctor will consist of? Will he use a doppler to hear the heart beat? I haven’t heard it yet and I realllllllllly really want to hear it already!
What else could I possibly expect during the visit?
Thanks

Your next visit(s) will only be about 3 minutes long…unless you have questions. They will use a doppler to hear the heart beat….NOW if you can’t hear it at 13 weeks don’t freak out. Those dopplers are not as sensitive as an ultrasound. You’ll also pee in a cup and give it to the nurse…and that’s it…unless you have questions. Your visits will be like that from 13 weeks-36 weeks…then they will start to do internals again. FYI: old wives tale if the heart rate is that high that early it’s a girl (remember OLD WIVES tale:) GL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he will probably use the dopplar. they will have you pee in a cup everytime. other than that not a lot will happen. he will feel your stomach and make sure you are doing ok. nothing else exciting happens until about 20 weeks when you get another ultrasound.
Yes, you will more than likely hear the heartbeat at that appointment! Other than that, it will probably be a urine test, blood pressure and weight.
Congrats on the baby!
1.) Pee in yet another cup (they sometimes test for protein and sugar levels)
2.) Maybe a blood test (I had one; they checked for toxoplasmosis)
3.) Ultrasound (TVU or abdominal, depends on your doc’s equipment and preference)
4.) Doppler (a small handheld machine that can pick up your baby’s heartbeat with audio)
5.) Weigh-In
6.) Consult with doctor
7.) Discuss any screenings you may want done (CVS, amnio, etc).
You probably won’t get a pelvic exam unless you have a complaint. I didn’t. The coolest part is the ultrasound and Doppler, though. The doctor may feel your stomach as well. That’s about it. He might tell you about the Level II scan you have done at 20 weeks. Most OBs will send you out to a radiologist for those, so he might ask you to make the appointment early.
Good luck, and congrats!
Starting at 10 weeks my dr. starts listening to the heartbeat at every visit! So you should defiantly here it the next time you go. Also, if you havent had a pap smear recently then they will probably do one. Other than that I know I got blood work done around that time but mostly the visits have been checking the heartbeat and asking/answering any of my questions!!~~
