Just used Angel Sounds Fetal Doppler - slow heartbeat detected. Is this mine or babies?
Hi there,
I am 11 weeks pregnant and due to a miscarriage in my last pregnancy I decided to purchase an angel sounds fetal doppler for sound of mind. We used it tonight and after 10 minutes found the sound of a heartbeat (sounds like the whooshing of a steady train). We timed this heartbeat and it was only 65 beats per minute - from the literature I have read babies heartbeats should be at least 120 BPM at the moment. Now I am worrying whether there is something wrong or if I have just picked up my own heartbeat? The position I found the heartbeat was above my pelvic bone to the RHS.
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks
Mrs B

Sorry for your previous loss. I think that’s your own heart beat that you’re hearing. With those Angel Sounds Fetal Dopplers, you can not hear the baby’s heartbeat until like 24 weeks usually. and yes, 65 beats per minute is way too slow for a baby’s heartbeat. It’s def. yours that you’re hearing.
Baby’s heartbeat is usually between 120 BPM and 170 BPM.
Your baby is probably fine. I wish their was a way to hear the heart beat this early, but you wouldn’t be able to do that unless you bought a medical grade doppler. I’ve seen these on Ebay before, but they’re pretty pricy.
Good Luck
It’s unlikely it was anything other then your heartbeat.
No offense but that is exactly why I never bought one. They drive you nuts with needless worries. Some HB cant even be heard @ 10 weeks. Im sure your bub is just fine. Relax, stress is no good for ya
that was most likely your heartbeat. it is still pretty early to be able to hear your little one’s heartbeat, but if you can, try putting the doppler way down on your pelvis, near your pubic hair line. your baby is still so small, he or she is likely not above that point in your uterus yet.
Good Luck and God Bless.
Well, it could have been your heartbeat, or you could have heard the placenta. We always hear the placenta first with my pregnancy (I’m 32 weeks now) because it’s anterior (on the front of my uterus), and it has a weird, whooshing, kinda heartbeat sound but it’s slow, so maybe that’s what you heard? Don’t stress that it was the babies, you’re still REALLY early, so you might not be able to hear it yet on a home Doppler, I know TONS of people who could NEVER hear their babies heartbeats on home Dopplers.
At 11 weeks that monitor will not pick up your baby’s heart beat. I bought one of those when I was 7 months pregnant, and it still didn’t pick up anything. Those things are usually a waste of money. I doubt you can afford an actual portable scanner that they use at the doctor’s office… they can run about thousand bucks.
If i were you, I would return it, so you’re not torturing yourself. Even if you could detect your baby’s heart beat right now, what would you do if it was slow? There’s no use in worrying now.
Good luck!
