Is there anything else that beats that fast on Fetal Doppler?
Because I have no experience and never heard the heartbeat before I lost my first pregnancy, I am wondering if there is anything else that would beat as fast as a baby’s heart when listening through a fetal doppler. I have a 3 mhz model which has a wider but shallower beam, and I am 9 weeks 5 days along. I was able to first hear what I think is the heart at 9 weeks 3 days after first hearing my heart a gabillion times. I chanced across this faint gallop of a noise that, when picked up clear enough, was measuring out to about 170 per minute. A friend of mine said that it might be the placenta, but wouldn’t the placenta have a slower beat much like the mother? I am pretty sure that this "da dunk, da dunk, da dunk" is much different than my own "woosh, woosh, woosh." Am I right?

You heard your baby’s heartbeat. In all my years of practice, I’ve never heard a placenta.
Count the beats you hear for 15seconds then multiply it by 4. The baby’s heart beat should be between 120-180.
But I thought the earliest you detect a heart beat was around 12-14wks.
my babys was 169 beats per minute yesterday. yay
