Is 9 weeks 6 days too early to detect a heartbeat?
My next prenatal appointment is on October 20th. I’ll be 9 weeks 6 days then (a day short of 10 weeks). They told me that they will be checking for the baby’s heartbeat then, using a fetal Doppler. Is that too early to pick up a heartbeat? Most books and articles say it’s usually detectable by 10 weeks, but is a day early too early? Just curious, because I don’t want to get bummed or worried if they can’t pick it up. (My first ultrasound won’t be until a week after.) Thanks, all!

You’ll be close enough to 10 weeks to give it a shot, at least. Dates are approximate, especially when you’re talking about just a day or two.
Don’t be surprised if you don’t hear anything, though–that’s still really early, and it can be hit-and-miss up until 15 weeks or so.
you will be able to see it. but they more than likely wont be able to hear it until about 11-13 weeks pregnant. thats when they FINALLY heard my little girl :0)
Nope. In fact, I just had my first prenatal appointment last week. I was 9 weeks and 5 days and I was able to hear my baby’s heartbeat. It was AWESOME!!
Its hard to find the heartbeat but its possible. My doctor kept looking in the wrong spot so i never heard it until 18 weeks.
If the baby is in the right position it’s very possible that they’ll be able to hear a heartbeat.
I don’t think a day makes all that much difference.
If you don’t hear the heartbeat try not to worry, sometimes it’s hard to hear anything until 14 weeks!
I saw my baby’s hb at 9 weeks.
With ultrasound, it can be picked up quite early- with my daughter I saw/heard it at 6wks. pregnant & with my son-8wks pregnant.
Using a fetal doppler-possibly. They tried to detect it for me at 10 weeks pregnant (my 1st pregnancy) and couldn’t… but were able to my next appt. at 14 wks. For me, they did a quick ultrasound, since they couldn’t detect it (she was super active) and everything turned out to be fine. Good Luck!!!
Congrats on the pregnancy!!!
You should be able to hear the heartbeat by that point. Have fun. My husband and I heard the heartbeat and it made this pregnancy real for us.
You can only hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks half of the time. Mine wasn’t picked up until 12 weeks. Good luck!
when i was 9 weeks and 3 days they did the ultrasound that they stick inside your vagina and i got to see and hear the heart beat and i saw my baby. however, as of 11 weeks and 4 day the babys heart beat wasnt detectable with a doppler yet.
finding it with the doppler is more difficult than with a sonogram. there is no guarantee on you hearing it and if you don’t then don’t worry about it.
I was 9w4d when I heard my daughter’s hb this time and 8 weeks with my first daughter
both were on sonogram though
no they found mine when i was 8 wks and 6 days. i didnt hear it though, they showed it to me on the screen beating.
A day shouldn’t matter, but make sure you don’t worry too much if you don’t hear it on that day. I read something from a woman on a forum last week that said her doctor was unable to pick up the heart beat until after 15 weeks! Happy pregnancy!
im a lil jealous my midwife would not let me hear the heartbeat until i was 24 weeks. they can always try it but try not to worry if they cant hear it
