you are probably listening to your own heart rate, not the babies. babies should be between 120-180...definitely not as low as 80. I really wouldnt be surprised if youre picking up your pulse though and not your babies heart rate. go to the doc, and when they find your babies heart rate ask them for advice on how you can find it on your own

Unless you were able to buy a fetal heart monitor like the one the doctor has and you use the jelly like the doctor does, you shouldn't even be able to hear your babies heartbeat.

I bought a heart beat monitor from the store and was told by the sales woman and the instructions that it is to be use only in the 3rd trimester because it won't pick up on a babies heart beat in the first or second trimester because it isn't strong enough. I, however, am only 26 weeks along and I have been able to pick up the heart beat a few times- though I am only a couple weeks away from my 3rd trimester.

You might be picking up your own heart beat instead.

Anyways, at evey doctor visit they will or at least should use their heart beat monitor, which is way more advanced, and when they do just ask how many beats a minute it is. I do and they always tell me. My babies heart rate has been between 140 and 150.

You aren't counting fast enough is my guess. And a home doppler is probably not as good as the doctor's. Go to the doctor if you are concerned about it.

call dr if you are concerned but i have heard people say the home dopplers can be hard to find the heartbeat and keep it for the full count. Talking to your OBGYN would be best.

My advice? You're probably picking up your own pulse. You have major veins and arteries in your belly, and 80bpm is pretty normal for an adult.

that sounds really low. maybe your mistaking your heart beat for the baby's. i think you should call your doctor and ask him/her if you should go to the emergency room or something.
