The doppler does use the same ultrasound waves that can produce heat that is thought to affect the baby's brain. There is no way to know for sure if this is happening so to stay on the safe side she discourage prolonged use. She said if I wanted one to only listen for a minute once a day and be done with it. I decided to stay on the safe side and not get one at all. The other thing is that most dopplers that you rent do not strap on, they are hand held and it's very hard to keep it in exactly the right spot to hear unless you are pretty far along.
