Home fetal heart doppler safe? How often? How early?
As a bit of background, I am 39 years old have had two consecutive misscarriages (last one lost at 13 weeks) and I am now delighted to be 9.5 weeks pregnant (after a tough and long time trying).
I have not had a lot of preggie symptoms although I did have an ultrasound last week, which showed baby to be perfect size for due date with a very healthy heart rate, which was quite a relief!
I would really like to purchase one of the fetal heart brate dopplers for home use, just for peace of mind and also to make the pregnancy more "real" for my partner.
I have yet to ask my doctor/midwife but was wondering whether anyone knew anything about the safety of these, and if so, how often can they be used safely??
I tired googling but couldnt find any info myself easily.
Also, if you have personal experience with these, please share how early you picked up your babies heartbeat??? Also, what your experience was with these????
Thanks so much for an help!

According to What to Expect when you are Expecting fetal dopplar devices are safe to use as much as you like although it may be 10-14 weeks before you can pick up a heartbeat with it. It also depends on how small or large your midriff is. Heavier people tend to not be able to get readings until a bit later than someone who weighs like 100 pounds. My last pregnancy the Dr had to do an ultrasound to determine the due date since I am a heavier person.
Im not sure either but i would like 2 know. I wanted to buy one the other day but im not sure how they would work.

I don’t think you can buy an actual doppler for home use…could be wrong, though.
They DO sell what amounts to a stethascope (sp?) at Target and Walmart, though. It’s called BebeSounds and costs around $20. I have it, and it kind of works, but not til at least 20 weeks. I’m 35 weeks now and can just now hear the heartbeat.
They do the actual Doppler at the OB’s at every appointment, however, so you’ll get to hear it quite often.
Good luck and best wishes to you & Baby! God bless you both!
