Do you have to be 10 weeks before they work? Do they work well? What should I look for in one and who should I rent from?

Don’t waste your money on one from Target or Walmart - they are a waste of time & money and do not detect until the 3rd trimester. At that point, you can feel the kicks, who needs a doppler?
As to renting one, they do work . . . but I caution you that they can cause more stress than anything. If you cannot find the heartbeat or mistakenly start measuring your own pulse which is much lower than it can be a scary and stressful experience
I would skip it.
you can buy this thing called bebe sounds and it lets you and your husband listen to the babys heartbeat at the same time and its WAY LESS EXPENSIVE and they sell it at target!!
congrats and good luck.
hi hun, i rented one of ebay as it was the same one my midwife used. i was £10 for a month well worth the money, you can use it from 10 weeks but ther dopplers are different. however i will say one thing i got slightly addicted to it and was constantly checking up which prob didnt help me very much, but im glad i rented it but i wont be havin it for another month x
I totally want to rent one too. I was 9 weeks at my first apointment and I heard the heart beat on the doppler and it was amazing. You may have to wait until your at least 10 weeks. It’s harder for you to find the heart beat than your doctor so you may not find it right away. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy!!
I bought one and had very little luck finding it myself until 13 weeks…not blaming it on the doppler b/c it could purely be my lack of skill/experience. However, it caused stress for awhile until I took it to my check up with me and got my doctor to show me the correct & easiest way to find the baby with the particular doppler I had - and I highly recommend that.
i rented one from babyfm.com….it was 130 dollars for 2 months and i found the heartbeat at 10 1/2 weeks….i am now 19 weeks and just bought a doppler for $60.00 from echostore.com and i have no problem finding the heartbeat with this one either.
I had one off hi-bebe.
I got it when I was 10weeks4days and found the heartbeat easily
I bought one on ebay, and could never find the heartbeat. I felt that it was a waste of money. I was always worrying when I couldn’t find the heartbeat that there was a problem with the baby. My baby was usually in a strange position, that even the Dr had problem finding the heartbeat.
