We bought the Sonotrax Fetal Doppler (3mhz probe) from Amazon.com and it works great. It cost around $80 and it is something that can be used again or passed down to another family member or friend, so it's not a waste of money.
I use it on average 2-3 times a week..

I'd skip it - unless it is hospital grade, you are unlikely to find the heartbeat or mistakenly start tracking your own pulse instead of that of the baby. Most women that I know (including myself) found it to be much more stressful to not be able to find the heart rate.

Congrats and best wishes for a happy & healthy pregnancy!

Only the really expensive ones work such as the Hi Bebe.

One of my coworkers rented one for both pregnancies and it worked well.

I got a fetal heart monitor from ebay for about $90 and it works well. I got it when I was 14 weeks and could hear the heartbeat then. It was a prenatal fetal heart doppler. Here is the link to the first one I saw on ebay.

I bought a dopper off of ebay, but I bought one of the baby sounds ones. It was around $50. Honestly they don't work fantastic and they pick up static. Your better off spending more money and buying the more expensive ones than the cheap ones. I bought one because I miscarried in Oct 08 and thought it would calm my nerves about chance of miscarriage again. I started using it at around 11 weeks and thought what I was listening to was my babys heartbeat but it was actually an echo of mine! I couldn't pick up the actual heartbeat until around 3 weeks ago (16-17 weeks). Maybe its because I got a cheap one, not sure.

Bought almost the exact one and you cant even start to listen to the hartbeat until your in the 3rd trimester.

Also I am in the 3rd trimester and I still cant hear the heartbeat, Even if at my appts. I can hear the heartbeat is strong.

This one is a piece of crap, If your going to get one you need to get a hospital grade one. You can also rent them but there kind of costly.
