Hi there! I think perhaps you are picking up sounds from your placenta. When using the doppler, fetal heart sounds are like the hoof-beats of a galloping horse. A rushing wind-like sound is audible from the placenta. Your right, your own heartbeat can be detected! The fetal heart rate usually ranges between 140 to 160 beats per minute, approximately twice your rate. You can check this by taking your pulse simultaneously! Hope this helps!

Do you mean discovered that they were having twins on their own from a fetal doppler?

I have not . . . I already know that I am expecting twins from a 6 1/2 week ultrasound . . . we rented a hospital grade doppler and had to return it because it made my CRAZY - I had trouble really finding both of them and it would freak me out! But if you were more skilled than me . . . it would probably work!

Good luck to you!
