Has anyone ever used a home fetal doppler?

I have been wanting to buy one so bad but I am not sure if:
1) they really work
2) Which one to buy
3) How far along you have to be for them to work?
What are your success stories (and with which one?)
OR
Your disappointment in one (and which one you used)
I have seen some at the maternity stores but was not sure if they really worked

They actually aren’t "dopplers" like at your Dr’s office. It is more like a stethoscope with a speaker. I have never bought one bc everyone I know that has, and my Dr have all told me that they are not worth the money. You have to be very far along to pick it up. Half the time you can’t tell if it is you or the baby unless you know what to listen for. The other half of the time you can’t hear anything and it scares people and makes them think something is wrong and end up going to the Dr or E.R. for no reason.
well i bought a cheap one at babies r us for 19 dollars.
It doesn’t work. I can only hear my heartbeat and not the baby’s
Im already 34 weeks and supposedly it works in the 3rd trimester but NO.
But maybe if you buy an expensive one it might work.
i wanted to get one and my sister told me not to. it depends on the type of person you are really… although you will be able to hear your baby’s heart whenever you want it can also scare you incase you think you hear 2 heart beats or none at all and then you worry that something is wrong. i always think its better to have a professional to do it that way there more accurate then what i would be and if they were worried about it they would know what to do, i think around about 12-16 weeks you can do it maybe eairlier but im not sure. good luck and hope this helps
I bought a 25.00 dopplar from K-mart and took it back. I couldn’t hear anything at almost 25 weeks.
Yeah they do work…well the one i used when i was pregnant did. Im not 100% sure on how far along i was when i started using it but it was pretty early and i heard my babies heartbeat every time. Sometimes i had to move it around for a bit so i could find it but it was so cute hearing it. Also i found it reassuring to use if i hadn’t felt him move for a day.
Mine was called Angelsounds, i got it off the internet.
An actual real doppler does work, but those are not the ones you guys are seeing at maternity stores- those are amplifiers which rarely, if ever work properly.
Real dopplers can be bought (most are over $100, and many are far more expensive than that), or rented through many websites. Check the link I posted, they’re very reputable. You will need a prescription from your doctor to purchase or rent one through most places.
