i bought a doppler off ebay and had to buy my gel seperate but it was only £2.50. Im sure KY will do the job, if not, boots may do gel. Word of warning though, i got my doppler and first picked up the Hb at 9+5 weeks which was great, i used it every day to check on bubs until i got to 17 weeks and when i was having a listen the babies HB dropped right down till it nearly stopped then came back up.I was so panicked that i called my MW who spent 10 mins trying to calm me down. She said its quite normal for that to happen but i should probs stop using the doppler incase i hear it again. So all i would say is dont listen for too long at any one time as you can get really freaked out. Im now 21 weeks and feel baby moving all the time so i dont need to listen. Sorry for the rant, i just wanted to give you a tip :) Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy x

The one that came with the doppler was a tiny amount and made my tummy sore. I then went on eBay about 17 months ago and bought a pack of 2 large bottles for £5 and they didnt make me sore, the were 'salt free' i would look out for this when buying them, secondly, i really dont think you will find anything which will will work like the gel, apart from KY jelly ;)

I,m a midwife and I use KY jelly, works just as well. A word of caution about dopplers, you really need to know how your baby is lying to hear your baby properly, particularly in the first two trimesters, often you can mistake placental sounds with babys heart. Have fun with it but don't panic if you can't find baby and don't rely on it instead of seeing your midwife.
