hearing the fetal Heartbeat?

Today I was screwing around at work (labor and delivery unit) with the doppler monitor and was trying to find the heartbeat (15 weeks along) and couldn’t find it. I’m no professional, and I’ve heard the heartbeat three times before at the doctor.

Should I worry, or is it just my skill? I only tried for about ten minutes, and it wasn’t a "fetal heartbeat doppler".

I don’t think I should worry because I wasn’t really positioned right. I don’t know, any advice?
Thanks.

17 weeks pregnant and sharp right sided pain?

I’m 17 weeks pregnant today. Starting yesterday, I have been feeling a semi-sharp right sided pain that seems to come and go every couple of minutes. It doesn’t feel like a period like cramp but a small isolated spot on the right side right above my vagina. Could this be ligaments stretching. I heard the heartbeat on my fetal doppler so I know the baby is ok. Any simialr experiences would be great to hear. Thanks.

2 nights ago I couldn’t sleep because the baby decided to have a private party in my tummy :-)
Last time I felt it only once. This morning nothing. I check with a fetal doppler and I could hear the baby heart. Is it normal that the baby might change sleeping and active pattern????

i am 17 weeks pregnant today, and i have not yet felt the baby move and this is my second baby. i keep reading and hearing people say that they felt the baby move sooner in their second pregnany. but i haven’t felt the baby yet, and i am concerned. i have a fetal doppler and heard the babies heartbeat, but just no fetal movement.

To all women who answered the Heat beat question?

There was just a question asked about how early the heart beat can be detected and quite a few said the heart beat can be heard at 9 weeks at the earliest. Do you mean with a fetal doppler (heart monitor) or at an ultrasound scan or did you not go for your first scan till you were 9 weeks? Because i went for an ultrasound scan when i was 6 weeks exactly and i heard my baby’s heart beat, it was strong and 167 beats per minute so it must be possible to hear the heart beat earlier than 9 weeks!

fetal doppler question?

Well I have a question for those experiences in using fetal dopplers… the link has a recording of what I believe is the fetal heart beat .It took me awhile to find it . Its a bit staticy…but it was the best I could get of it .The LCd shows something like 145-150 but my experience the LCD is usually very wacky on me ….its very easy to find my own and is alot louder the lcd when I get to my own bpm shows anything from 66,90 something ,108 and then goes back to lower numbers

oh by the way I’m 14 weeks now
last pregnancy was twins

I am a little overweight and I was wondering if the doppler will be able to pick up the baby’s heart rate at my 11 week appointment?

would it sound like bubbles, or nosiy static?

Fetal dopplers????

I’m about 5 weeks and a few days pregnant and i was wondering if you can hear your own heart beat in your uterus with a fetal doppler. I know really its a little early to hear the babys heart beat but thought i’d have a listen and see as i have had a horrible weekend and was in hospital because i was in alot of pain and they thought i perhaps had a ectopic pregnancy, i didn’t but was v scary. anyway i can hear a heart beat thats about 83 bpm but wondering if thats my own as i don’t know how fast my own heart beat should be.

My boyfriend and I borrowed a fetal doppler from a friend and I can’t hear the heartbeat of my baby. I’m eight weeks pregnant and I’m really worried. I slipped down some steps last night but the friend we’ve borrowed the doppler from assured me the baby is still too small to be hurt so I believed her but was still worried at the back of my mind. I trusted her as she’s had four children and she’s been helping me figure out what I need and how to plan things out. Should I go to the hospital or am I worrying over nothing?

fetal doppler………………?

When can you hear the babies heartbeat using a fetal doppler? I mean one of those that are at the office not that you buy for at walmart. Do you remember how many weeks you were when your dr/midwife found the heartbeat with one?

at every prenatal appointment when they listen to the heart beat with the doppler the doctor jokingly says it sounds like a boy
every doctor has told me this and
im having my ultrasound tommorrow!
i know it’s considered an old wives tale but is there any truth to this?
has anyone had experience with this that says otherwise?

Fetal Heart Doppler?

I want to get a Fetal heart Doppler, i live in Australia does anyone know where i can get one for cheap…. i dont want to pay over … can anyone help?? thanks

Are there some paints that I can paint with?

I’m 4 months along and I really wanna get started on my walls before the new carpet comes! Are there pregnant-safe paints?

Can you rent a fetal doppler for less than /month? I definately have to do the monthly payments–Just curious to see if anyone found a cheaper source.

24 days until my ultrasound!!! woohoo! Cross those fingers and toes for a little girl!

are fetal heart dopplers dangerous?

I have rented a fetal heart doppler to listen to my unborn babies heartbeat and it occurred to me yesterday that I don’t know if it can potentially harm my baby? Does anyone know?

I am starting to monitor my babies heart rate with a doppler, is it normal for the babies heart rate to be slower in the morning, and speed up in the afternoons?

I am pregnant with twins and worry as one baby is much more active - so wondered whether a doppler would give me some reassurance? But say I try to listen to the baby situated on the back right - will I just hear baby on the front left heartbeat?

I went in and the did an ultrasound because the fetal doppler couldn’t detect the heartbeat. It displayed that it was 150 and when i heard the heartbeat it was pretty fast. Most people say a fast heartbeat means a girl, others say a fast heartbeat means that it is strong and the baby is healthy. I want a healthy baby no matter what, but is there a possibility that it could still be a boy?

Hi all,

I was just doing some browsing for baby stuff on eBay and I found listings for fetal heartrate dopplers for at-home use!

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and have been in and out of hospital in the past 2 weeks for bleeding. And now the hospital says I can’t get emergency ultra sounds anymore because my bleeding appears to be a normal part of my pregnancy. It’s still scary as hell (had a m/c in April this year) I really would love one of these to help me relax whenever I think something is wrong!

But I was wondering if they are any good before I go spending my money, has anyone gotten one of these or know someone that has? Are they any good?

I just bought a BF500++ Fetal Doppler with display. I am 9 and a half weeks. I dont have a scan until I’m 13 weeks unfortunately and didn’t want to wait that long to make sure I could hear heartbeat. I got the doppler today and quickly tried to use it at lunchtime from work. It was picking up heartbeat as it was going from 000 to 127 and above, but kept fluctuating, and it did move about, so had to find it quite a lot, could this of caused the difference in readings, I was just expecting one reading and that was it. What should the heart rate be at this stage? and what happens if it picks up that it’s a little slower than it should be? Any tips on using them, ie do I need lots of gel on? Do I need to lie down? Etc. Any help would be gratefully received.
Why are some people saying I won’t be able to hear it till after 13 weeks, thats not right at all, everyone’s different, and it certainly wasn’t my heartbeat, unless I’d been running beforehand! Its a medical doppler that is used by midwives so it will work earlier, I just wanted to clarify roughly what the heartbeat should be, as it did register on the monitor quite a lot.
Didn’t really sound like a heartbeat, just noise, strange, but nice :oD
To the nurse who commented - so nobody at 9 and a half weeks has ever picked up a heartbeat on a medical doppler, complete rubbish!!! I know a lot of people who have, what exactly was it reading then if not a heartbeat!? and why is it a waste of money, it’s something to keep to listen to your baby right till it arrives, why is that a waste of money!? Lets hope I never get treated by someone as cold as you - mind you, the amount of nurses I’ve met in the last 2 months (nothing related to my pregnancy) my grandad’s illness and then passing and going by your comment, you’re all the same!!!!
Thanks for everyone thats been helpful and given me tips - and to those who haven’t I hope you never ask for help or hints. I’m only excited, isn’t that natural, I don’t expect ‘god’ or ‘waste of money’ to be thrown in my face!

What is normal fetal movement at 26 weeks?

I am 26 weeks pregnant with my second child and am concerned because this baby doesnt move often and when he does move, the movements are just little twists or nudges- no big kicks. My daughter had moved all the time, and they were vigorous movements! I just had an ultrasound 6 days ago and was told that baby was growing fine and that all looked well (although his size is only in the 30th percentile). I have a fetal doppler and the heartrate is always in normal range. Has anyone else had two or more children and noticed a drastic difference in the amount and strength of movements like I have? I feel him have 2-3 ’spurts’ of movement a day, usually lasting 10-20 min each, where its just little pokes and whatnot….I’m sick with worry…. I’m looking for answers based more on personal experience than the "oh everyones different, call your doctor if you’re worried"

While listening with my fetal Doppler, I have actually heard my baby’s heartbeat speed up quite rapidly on two separate occasions. Both times, coincidentally, I had finished drinking about 1/2 can of Diet Pepsi. Has anyone else actually heard the heartbeat speed up while listening in a short period of time and know what this could be attributed to? Could it be sensing the Doppler and reacting to the sound waves?
Also, I am 12 weeks 2 days pregnant and have been hearing the heartbeat since 9 weeks 3 days with a home fetal Doppler. On ultrasound at 8 weeks 2 days, the heartbeat was 180. It has stayed between 160 and 170 since then.

Hey, so according to my LMP im 11 weeks today, according to my last ultrasound, im 12 weeks tomorrow… so anyway, my arnp tried to listen for a heart tone today, and she THOUGHT she heard it but she said the baby was moving and couldnt keep the doppler on it long enough… should I be worried that I havent heard it? I had a miscarriage in Oct, and the same thing happened, I couldnt hear a heartbeat and then i found out i had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks and I was 12… so help :(
