they are good but not recommended by professionals to but.
this is for 2 reasons
the first is if you cant find the heart beat you panic
the second is some times your heart beat is mistaken for the babies the more you stress about not finding it the more your heart beat rises and mimics the babies.
thirdly a doc or midwife uses a doppler to check other things not just the heart beat
would you know what to look for when checking the placenta

No...they don't work as good as the doctors. It takes away all the excitment of the visit! That's all you get for a while....they don't do ultrasounds every visit

no! if the baby is in an odd position you cant hear any heartbeat! the doctors have the experience to know where to listen for it so you will just worry yourself for no reason!

I brought as heart monitor for £20 from amazon and its brill!

I had my 16 week consultant appointment yesterday (due to me have a emerg c-section with my last one) and didn't get to hear the heart beat so i'm so glad i've brought this. I'm not booked in to see my midwife until november so it's put my mind at rest!

because they are not what doctors and hospitals use, you would not hear what you hear at the doctors office. you can barely hear anything from the ones you can buy at the stores, its nothing but static!
