I bought mine from ebay. I heard baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks for a few seconds, then the battery died, by the time i changed them i couldn't find it anymore. But at 9 week i heard it again. After that i have no problem hearing it. It just took a little time to find in the early weeks. But now at 18 weeks i just put it to my tummy and there it is! Usually though heartbeats are heard from 12weeks, but if you are thin to begin with you can hear it earlier, as was the case for me.

BTW i bought mine for $65. And it's as good as the ones doctors have. you don't need 1 that costs 1000 to be good.

I rented mine from www.heartones.com for $22 a month.
I was able to pick up the heartbeat at 10wks. I still have it and use it to reassure myself on days when the baby doesnt move too much.

I just asked my dr what he thought of the home Dopplers the other day.. He said unless you're willing to spend about $1000 on one like theirs, they dont work very well.

From the ones I have seen, most say they can be used in the late 2nd trimester or early 3rd trimester.. Anything before that will be too early.

I considered buying one but now decided not to. I know if for some reason I couldnt find the heartbeat because it wasnt "strong" enough, I would be in a panic.

I never had a home-use one with my son.. I think I'll leave it up to the doctors with this one as well. I can feel my baby moving around all the time, that's good enough for me!!

Good luck & congrats!
