Its kinda fun to use a fetal doppler, but I actually recommend against it. There are a lot of times when it can be really hard to find your baby's heart rate and that just raises your stress level through the roof. Also, if you hear something odd without someone there to interpret, you can worry. Plus, we assume they are safe, but there are some concerns with certain types of doppler used repeatedly at certain times during pregnancy. We never know the stuff that hurts babies until so much later.

Personally, I recommend getting the heart rate heard when you are in the office and enjoying the movements of the baby in between. Get to know your baby in non-technology ways like playing the "what part is this?" game when feeling your belly.

I've read review for the ones you buy in the store. Not one of the reviews was good. My doc uses a doppler at every appt. It is hard enough for me to believe that noise she hears is the heartbeat. I know if I bought one for myself, I'd end up throwing the thing in rage. I wouldn't waste my money. Besides, I was told after 20 weeks you might be able to hear the heartbeat with a regular stethoscope. Invest in one of those. Alot cheaper and alot less complicated.
