fetal doppler?

just bought a fetal doppler - a little paranoid i guess! baby has a steady heartbeat, 140 - 150 beats per min, sometimes though it slows down a little then speeds back up. is this normal? also, does anyone know how many times a day/length of time that is safe to use the doppler? cheers!

As stated in a report by the Mayo clinic, "Ultrasound has been used regularly in obstetrical practice for more than 30 years, and no adverse effects have ever been demonstrated. Research investigating the heat produced by ultrasound and the noise produced in utero has not suggested even a hint of a problem in exposed babies. Ironically, pregnant women who have concerns about ultrasound, almost never have concerns about the hand held Doppler instruments that allow us to listen to the fetal heartbeat at prenatal visits. These tools also utilize ultrasound energy, but no adverse effects of Doppler use has ever been seen either. There is no reason to feel uncomfortable with ultrasound during pregnancy, and the benefits of its use can be great.
yes it is normal for a baby’s heart beat to do that. I don’t know about he safety of it but the manual it came with should tell you, if not, call your local maternity and ask them.

Sweetie throw away the doppler
What are you going to do if you hear something you percieve as bad??? panick like hell and cause yourself stress. Your not qualified to interpret a fetal heart rate so its just going to be stressful
Look For Movement
I tell all my ladies the best marker for knowing your baby is well is movements, this means your baby is getting good oxygen flow thru the placenta and if its quiet give it a short sugar challenge (soft drink) within 30 min it should kick well.
IF you must use the doppler
Yes they are safe but the heart rate varies when they are asleep and away and when they move their heart rate changes(as does yours). Plus as they come closer to term the heart rate slows a little
