Doppler Question?
I am 11 weeks pregnant and recently purchased an at home fetal doppler from ebay. The first time I tried it I found the heartbeat after about 30 mins and was obviously very excited as I havnt had a scan yet. Anyway, just now I tried it again and can very clearly hear the placenta and heartbeat, but on both sides of my lower abdomen. With nothing in the middle. Is this the same heartbeat I can hear?? If there were two babies wouldnt they be together rather than on completely seperate sides? I am panicking slightly as I dont have a scan for another couple of weeks. And twins do run in the family……
Please someone put my mind at rest and tell me it can be the same heartbeat!
It is a digital monitor and so the heartbeat is coming up at between 140-150 bpm on each side, mine is about 70 and I can find that as well.

the dopplers are very sensitive and you are likely to pick up the heart beat from either side so it really does not mean you are expecting twins! however as they run in your familly you have a higher chance than most to carry more than one baby ! just sit tight till your scan, relax and enjoy the miracle of pregnancy ! Good luck
it could be twins but then they prob wont be on diff sides
but sometimes it your body making the noises
like muscles moving..and your gut or blood pumping.
Its easier to hear from the sides than the top of your belly. Your own doctor will feel from the sides of your tummy and not from on top.
its doesnt mean there are twins
Be sure you’re hearing your babys heart beat and not yours. The babys heart should beat about 2.5 times a second or more, yours will be much slower. Compare by taking your pulse while listening to the beat.
Iam sure you did that, but a lot of the time it accounts for why you hear something on both sides.. because its your own heart beat
Possibly, or the baby might have moved. If you are in a lot of concern call the doctor and ask if they could get you in that you are having concerns and usually they will.
you might be hearing your heartbeat
it is most likely twins because you don’t normally hear it on both sides yep sounds like twins alright
Good Luck
Unless this is a highly sophisticated doppler (like the kind used in the doc’s office) then it is very hard to hear the heartbeat… even when you are in much later pregnancy. The area you hear the heartbeat from alters because the placenta and fluids (amniotic) conduct sound. The placenta acts like an acoustic room, and the amniotic fluid channels the sounds. Most likely, this is the same heartbeat, only your doc can tell you for sure when you have an ultrasound though. They’ll keep measuring your stomach growth each time, and if they think it is big for the due date, then they may do an ultrasound sooner. Any blood work you have done (AFP test, amniocentisis) will also tell you if there is more than one baby, and the doc should be able to tell if there are more than one heartbeat when he gets a chance to scan you. Good luck and blessings on your new addition!
you r hearng blod flowing tru the cord
