I owned one of the hi-bebe ones that you can buy on ebay for 100 dollars. It worked AMAZINGLY well. It was safe to use, and I never had a problem with it at all. Id definitely recommend it.

I used bellybeats.com and didn't have any problems. It wasn't overly expensive and I only kept it from 14-22wks, just long enough to feel kicks regularly. It worked well and the company was ok to work with.

I rented one from babybeat.com and it works great. I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat at 12 weeks. Being a first-timer, it really gave me the peace of mind I needed until I could feel my baby move. It was pretty easy to set up the online transaction and I believe I received it within 2 days. Which one to rent is up to you. I rented the one with the recorder which was the highest end model. I never recorded anything. So I don't recommend that one. The next one down should be more than sufficient.

Because the effects of equipment of this type are still unknown for the long term, it is advised that they are not used extensively. If you want to know how your little one is doing, try kick counts. It's completely univasive, requires no equipment save paper and pencil, and it's a very good clue into the well-being of your baby. (prevents still birth and monitors activity)
