i am thinking of hiring one as the vets have advised us not to take her for a scan as she is such a nervous dog

Ive answered on your last question the same thing incase you didnt check it!!
The fetal Dopler thing i wouldnt recommend it, my 1st experience with them was not good. I did a dopler on my dog and picked up 6 heart beats (or what i thought were heart beats) this was a day or 2 before she actualy went into labour and after 2 pups we were waiting and waiting and nothing so went back to the vets and said we was expecting more cause the doppler said so and they x rayed her to find nothing - no pups or no dead fetus’s what we actually picked up must have been my girls pulse from an artery or vein even the vet was baffled by it!!!
I own a doppler now and after 10 yrs of breeding i still hear heart beats that turn out not to be a heart beat lol!!! There is a slightly different sound to a pup beat to the mums pulse but without the experience of it you cannot be sure which you actually heard.
Large litters are easier so you could still try i got my doppler of a midwife (whos a friend) but they are sold on ebay and there are companies that rent them out. Just dont rely on it for numbers!!!! Its not as easy as dopplering for a human baby
