Buying a fetal heartrate / heartbeat monitor doppler…HELP!?
Anyone know where I can buy one that you use at home that is not super expensive? I have no idea what they cost actually. How are the ones from ebay? Anyone buy one of those off ebay? Do they work?
I am 14-15 weeks pregnant and my doctor refuses to check for my baby’s heartbeat which is really frustrating me b/c I am worried and have had a previous M/C at 13 weeks. I just want some reassurance things are okay.

go to this site. This is where I got mine from. It’s only $95 with shipping, insurance, and warranty. It works great. I heard my baby at 12 weeks. It is by far the best investment I have made so far.
check it out.
BY THE WAY….
EARLY ULTRASOUNDS DO NOT CAUSE MISCARRIAGE!
THAT OTHER PERSON IS COMPLETELY MISINFORMED.
They are expensive!!! I had a friend buy a used one from ebay and it didn’t work throughout her entire pregnancy and caused her a lot of unnecessary stress! Just wait for your u/s!!! I answered your previous question, also.
inexpensive dopplers you buy at the store or online are not always effective. you generally have to be farther along in your pregnancy for them to work well and even then it is hit or miss. if you want to get one that works, you should look into renting one- there are a few places online that you can rent them from and they are the same type used by doctor’s offices.
that being said, even if you were to rent one, it may be hard for you to find the heartbeat on your own not being trained. it may just further your anxiety.

This one works great and it’s only $25! My daughter freaked me out because sometimes she wouldn’t move for days! So I bought one of these to keep an eye on her. I had a mc too so I was especially worried.
most stores like target carry them also baby stores work well some say they do as long as ur of a normal weight but i have found out dont work well prices bout 30/40 doll as far doc he should be doing as normal thing if not see why or if possible check with other ob
You can purchase a battery operated microphone to hear your baby’s heartbeat anytime you want.
Too early ultrasounds can cause miscarriage. Your doctor is right. Soon you will feel your baby moving about day and night and you will have the constant reassurance that you need. Look for small fluttering sensations in the next few weeks. This is way cooler than any picture.
be careful of the ones that are at retail stores like babiesrus, etc. they are just magnified stethascopes, usually only work in the last trimester if they work at all, and they are not like the ones in the doctors office at all - i am 31 weeks and mine still doesn’t work, very frustrating!!! the ones the docs use are real dopplers and they are very expensive, the best monitary option is to rent one. however, i should tell you that having one can cause you even more stress, we are not trained to use them correctly and they can be difficult, especially early on in the first 2 trimesters. i hope you find what you are looking for, but i really don’t recommend buying the ones that are $25-50 from the retail stores…not worth the $ or the aggravation!
I’m looking into getting a monitor, too, because there really aren’t any Dr.s where I live, so once I get back from seeing my Dr. in the US, I won’t have any more appointments until I go back close to delivery. You can rent them. I think I’m going to rent from http://www.fetalsure.com/ but I’m still researching. I expect this to be my last pregnancy (I’m not not good at being pregnant, it makes me feel miserable), but if you’re planning on more kids, you might consider buying.
What I don’t understand is why your Dr. doesn’t want to check the heart rate. If your insurance allows it, you might want to call around to other Drs, especially considering your history of miscarriage (which, by the way, I’m so sorry about.)
Legally you’re supposed to have a doctors consent to buy one since they’re considered diagnostic tools. That being said, people do sell them on ebay. Some of them on ebay work at different frequencies than the one in doctors offices [ie higher frequency] others are lower. So it really is a crap shoot how its going to work. [and they don't know how the higher ones will respond when used repeatedly over time on a fetus]
I know its tough. I also had a miscarrage during my first pregnancy… it was so tough, and I had a fear every time something happened, [tripped and fell, got a fever, ate the wrong thing.. etc] but that being said. My doctor told me to look around and see how many people there are in the world. He told me that was the best confidence you can have in the human body’s ability to reproduce– the fact that most pregnancies yield happy healthy babies that grow up to be happy healthy adults.
Also, I work as a paramedic. If I had a dollar for every 9-1-1 call I’ve been on for a parent who couldn’t find the heartbeat with one of them– I’d be rich lol. while they’re easy to use, sometimes the babies don’t cooperate and lay in a position that can eaisly be heard with one of them… that can cause MORE anxiety and fear. Best of luck
So, let the thumbs down come my way– because no one ever likes it when I answer this question lol
I am renting mine its 22 a month. i went to dynamicdoppler.com I found my babies heart rate at 10 weeks. so they work really well.
