I bought the same type brand new on Ebay, it worked from 11 weeks and I could hear my baby's hb no problem! It was great and gave me alot of re-assurance throughout my pregnancy, the recording cable wont matter, I never did record mine anyway just listened to it myself through headphones, and dont worry its 2nd hand I sold mine on Ebay afterwards and the girl emailed me and thanked me saying it was excellent! It took me a few goes to pick up his heartbeat but when I did I burst into tears! It was so reassuring to know he was alive!
