Your doctor is right. The heartbeat is heard at different times depending on the woman. If you are heavy or have some fat deposits in your belly, the doppler has to go thru all that to pick up the heartbeat. Try to relax and wait for the scan. At 12 weeks, the scan will definitely show the heart beating.

At 11 weeks there is a huge chance that you will not hear heartbeat on doppler from either the way baby is positioned or heartbeat not strong enough yet, or baby still to little. I know that Monday is a long way off to wait, I would call the doctor back and tell him how upset you are and see if they can do your scan today or tomorrow. Try to relax and think positive. Good Luck

I think depending on where the baby is in the uterus is the determining factor in hearing the heartbeat so soon. I didn't think they even tried to hear it until 16 weeks or so (that's when I heard both my kids heartbeats) It seems weird to me that they would even attempt to hear it so early. You baby is fine so don't worry. Remember that worrying isn't good for you or the baby :O)

i have had 4 kids and with my last they couldnt find the heartbeat untill the 12th week. of course i freaked out at first but everything went fine. if you cant wait call your doctor and tell them how you feel, i know mine would do the scan if i thought something was wrong. insurance only allows so many scans but if there is a problem they have to let you have it done. but if i was you dont worry, try to keep your mind off of it, its really not a big deal. God Bless!

Hi

I didn't hear both my babies until 13wks. The midwife will now be able to feel the top of your womb over the pubic bone - which indicates that the baby is growing - if she couldn't feel that she would be a lot more worried.

Some babies, even at this early stage are little devils and lie weird so the heartbeat cannot be detected.

I am sure all will be well, please let us know how it goes!!!

Its very normal not to hear it at such an early gestational period. If the doctor was worried in any way he would have sent you for a scan there and then. Its easy to worry i know but Monday is only a few days away and when you see your baby kicking and moving and there little heart beat pumping you'll wonder what all the worrying and stress was about. Good luck i have all the confidence your baby is fine. If its any help my doctor would not even try at 12 weeks said there is no point its very hard to find as the baby is so small and only causes distress to the mother when not found. I'm 31 weeks and feeling my baby moving and kicking all the time. Good luck.
