You should only use it for a few minutes at a time, and ideally no more than once a week. You do want to use a decent amount of gel. I usually put enough on to where it would slide easily. If there's not enough, it will catch on your skin. However, you probably won't be able to hear a heartbeat until you are at least 12 weeks. Your way to early to hear anything right now but possibly your own heartbeat. Your ob has the best dopplers around and they cannot hear your heartbeat over your belly this soon.. They have to do it vaginally to detect a heartbeat. You have at least a good 7-10 more weeks to go before you will ever pick up anything over your belly hun.
