6 weeks pregnant. flutters in my ribs. what could it be?
ok my last period was 14 Feb 2010. i took 3 preg tests 15,15,18 march all positive. the past couple days I have been using a doppler for fetal heart beats. i have 3 different ones… mine 200+, 1st one was 180’s on left side of pelvis, and second was 160’s on right side of pelvis. they are very strong and sometimes they were close in range. i haven’t been to OB yet… could it be twins? i have been getting these fluttery thumps in my right rib cage. what could it be? they don’t hurt. my husband even felt them just to make sure i wasn’t tripping..
could it be possible that Im further along than I think I am?

i wouldn’t trust your fetal heart doppler. at this point you wouldn’t be able to hear the heartbeat but an an ultrasound may be able to see it flickering in the next few weeks for you. I doubt thats even your heartbeat at 180 because that’s about twice what it should be. the baby wont be anywhere near your rib cage until about 7.5-8 months so i would doubt that you’re that far along without noticing. chances are it’s just a flawed piece of equipment. when you go to the obgyn they will do a vaginal ultrasound and you’ll be able to get a more accurate due date and see that little flicker of a heartbeat. congratulations.
Ugh… The baby is in your uterus, down in your pelvis right now where it will stay until your about 12 weeks. Threesis no baby in your ribcage. And the heart just started beating, and you WILL NOT be able to hear until 8 or nine weeks and thats only with a hospital grade doppler, the home ones work arount 10 weeks, sound like your getting way ahead of yourself hun…
There is no way you could feel fluttering under your rib cage if you’re only 6 weeks… even with twins. Could be heart palpitations.
I’m also 6 weeks pregnant. My doctor said you will not be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat with a doppler until atleast 10 weeks pregnant. He said we’d be lucky to hear the heartbeat at 7 weeks with an ultrasound. Also, if your heartrate is 200+, something’s wrong. Even during intensive exercising, your heartrate should never exceed 180. Also, a baby’s heartbeat should only be around 130 right now. It gets faster, the farther you are. I’ve heard the dopplers are very hard to use. Also, if it were twins, they would be in the same location. Not on opposite sides of your pelvis. I’ve had odd feelings in my rib cage and honestly I think it’s just gas and expanding of my uterus maybe pushing upwards. Good luck and see your OB soon.
Every thing the first poster said is correct. You won’t feel any movement up near your rib cage until you’re nearing or are in your 3rd trimester. Even if you felt movement down in your pelvis, it still wouldn’t be the baby’s movement. At 6 weeks, he’s only 2-4 mm. Far to small to feel anything.
On another note, if your resting heart rate is in fact over 200, you need to see your dr soon! This suggests you may have a heart problem and you need to find out asap, especially if you want to keep your baby safe.
At 6 weeks you wouldnt be able to pick up a heart beat using a doppler. You may see it on an ultrasound but you will not hear it. And no way would you feel any movement this far along. And baby is alot lower, still in the pelvic area. Either you are way futher along (Like 3 months further along!) or your doppler is detecting something else.
Go here… http://www.whattoexpect.com/what-to-expect/landing-page.aspx and I would recommend buying the book "What To Expect When You are expecting". It will give you lots of useful information and they have pictures of the growth stages. Oh, I would go to the OB as soon as you can. Good Luck.
If you counted from your LMP, then you should be around 6 weeks preggo.
It’s gas, and nothing more! You will not feel fetal movement until around 18-22 weeks!
I didn’t start feeling my baby’s until I was about 17 weeks preggo.
Take care:)
From What I See You Obviously Had A Baby Before And Know What Fetal Movements Feels Like.. But At 6 Weeks No Its Just Gas Or Your Mind Playing Tricks On You, You Don’t Usually Feel The Baby Move Till 18-22 Weeks
