I recently went to the doctors last week and heard a heartbeat. I was so anxious to hear it again that I rented one of those fetal dopplers. At my appointment my doctor said the heartbeat was good at 174 bpm but when I am using this fetal doppler it seems waaaay lower like 100 bpm. Is this normal? Im almost positive its the heartbeat because its in the same spot as last week and you can hear the whoosing noise of the placenta around it. I just read too much on line and am starting to worry that somethings wrong! Whats weird though is when I hear the heartbeat it sounds exactly like last week, not slower. Am I going crazy!?!? Thanks

I’ve been considering renting a fetal doppler to have when my baby isn’t moving as much just to be sure everything is okay. Sometimes he goes quite a while without moving and it really gets me worried and since this is an everyday thing I stay stressed out. Can anyone suggest a good place to rent one from and if they actually work? I don’t want to rent one if it is not actually going to be helpful, so advice please =)

okay, so im 13 weeks and i work at the hospital. i had the ER Dr. and some of my nurse co-workers try to find my babies heartbeat cause i haven’t heard it yet. we kept finding my heartbeat but we were getting numbers on the fetal doppler like 159 and 176. we think we may have heard the swooshing of the placenta but never actually heard the heartbeat. do you think these numbers were my baby?!
yay im soo excited and i want a girl!

i have a fetal doppler and i just tried using it but it making alot more sound when i move it around and is kinda crackling, when i shake the cord of it also it makes a noise in the microphone part, i hired it and is due to go back next week, i keep it in a safe place so it not like i drop it and broke it or something. Do you think its broken and should i tell the people i hired it from as its not really fair to be able to use it for less time than i paid for
i hired it off ebay :). and im just worried as i dont want to use it if its broken cos i dont want to be sending waves to my baby off a broken doppler

Do you own a fetal doppler? I’ve been looking at them online, and I can buy a new one for about anywhere from to 0 dollars, but, at this point in time, I don’t have that kind of money to spend on a "want". So, I was wondering if anyone on here owned one that they’d like to sell. One that works good and everything. If you have any information on this to help me, I’d the grateful. Thanks so much!

I am 11 weeks pregnant and recently purchased an at home fetal doppler from ebay. The first time I tried it I found the heartbeat after about 30 mins and was obviously very excited as I havnt had a scan yet. Anyway, just now I tried it again and can very clearly hear the placenta and heartbeat, but on both sides of my lower abdomen. With nothing in the middle. Is this the same heartbeat I can hear?? If there were two babies wouldnt they be together rather than on completely seperate sides? I am panicking slightly as I dont have a scan for another couple of weeks. And twins do run in the family……
Please someone put my mind at rest and tell me it can be the same heartbeat!
It is a digital monitor and so the heartbeat is coming up at between 140-150 bpm on each side, mine is about 70 and I can find that as well.

Usually i hear the heartbeat within 5 minutes and quite clearly. But today i had a really hard time finding it and i looked at the time before i started and it was like 8.10pm and when i finished i realised id been using it for a good 10-15 mins because i was getting really worried and i got carried away and wouldnt stop until i heard the heartbeat, i did manage to catch it a few times but only for a few seconds and then the baby moved and id hear lots to whooshing and it would be a disaster trying to find it again. Yesterday i had no problems but i had curry not long before i used the doppler today could that be why the baby is moving so much. When i finished and i realised how long i used it for im now really worried as it says only use it for a few minutes….is this ok?
it was a quite spicy indian curry btw
youre allowed to use it a few times a week they wouldnt be letting people hire them if you couldnt use it often at home. its also FDA approved. some people have used it numerous times a day and their children are fine

I’m 11 weeks 2 days, and I’ve got to say, the fetal doppler is such a great thing! I bought mine off ebay for , and I can find it when I lay on my left side. Too bad I had a little soda and oreos before I did it…he kept moving all over..left side to center…. LOL….
anyhow…is it normal for the mother’s heart rate to always be elevated? I thought we were supposed to be in the 60-80ish range….but I’m like 95-110…(I bought one of those watches that reads it)….I didn’t know if maybe I should worry about my asthma…ah, well. Isn’t the doppler the greatest? To my calculations, his heart rate is 162..

Dumb question but…
can you use a fetal doppler on a newborn baby?
my aunty just had her baby a month ago and was wondering…
she has a doppler she used during pregnancy, can she use it on her newborn? it wont hurt the baby or anything?
will it even work?

i am 16w preg with fraternal twins and rented a fetal doppler today. at my last ob visit, the babies hb’s were the same. that was 3wks ago. the doppler i have is measuring one baby at 120bpm and the other one in the 150’s. i am scared and worried that something is wrong. could the difference be because their is twins? does this matter? i dont know that to do.

I know they’re OBs for a reason, I am baffled that they can always find it right away. I know if I had a fetal doppler, I would have to search around for the heartbeat.

I hired a professional fetal doppler when i was about 9 1/2 weeks and couldnt hear a thing. A week later at 10 1/2 weeks i tried again for about 5 mins and couldnt pick up the heartbeat again so tried the next morning and still nothing. So i tried again at 10w 6 days and still nothing and then again yesterday at exactly 11 weeks and still nothing and then for some reason about 30 mins later i tried again and found it! a few hours later my partner came round and i wanted him to hear so listened for about 10 secs. And today i used it again for about 5 mins. I have my 12 week scan next week thursday and i just need reassurance until then. Im a bit worried ive used the doppler too much but sometimes i get carried away and wont stop until i find the heartbeat and then i stop straight away. Can it harm my baby if i use it too often?

Tomorrow i will be 13 weeks pregnant when exactly will i be in my second trimester? And is it normal that the doctor doesn’t hear the baby’s heartbeat through a fetal doppler yet(on the ultrasound they could though) because he said that he’s concerned and with my first baby i heard the heart at 9 weeks exactly.

hi everyone i have a doppler and check my babies heart rate about every 3-4 days (im a high risk) anyways im 20 weeks 3 days pregnant and 3 days ago my babies heart rate was 159 bpm and today was only 142 ish. But the baby hasnt been as active today. So my question would be is it ok for the fetal heart rate to fluctuate during pregnancy?

Which places would you suggest renting from, and how early were you able to detect your baby’s heartrate? Are there any that you would advise against??
My hubby bought me one of those ones from the store and it doesn’t work and says it won’t work until late in the pregnancy. I’m pnly 17 weeks pregnant but I want to be able to hear the baby now, lol.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Jodi D, if the baby is the size of a peanut, I’d like to know what kind of peanuts you’ve been eating?? On average a baby at 17weeks is 5 inches long, that’s some peanut!! LOL
