Websites I've seen say that most women can find the heartbeat with a stethoscope around 19 - 20 weeks, but this is just an average. So, it is highly probable that you are hearing your baby's heartbeat! Exciting stuff!

Baby is also moving around quite a bit, even if you can't feel it, at 17 weeks so that's probably why you have to chase him around! I had my ultrasound (I'm 18 weeks) a couple days ago and was shocked to see how much he actually moved.

a baby's heartbeat sounds like galloping horses. it's really fast. it could be your baby's heart

its very very possible that you found your babes heart beat. If its a good stethescope and your babe is in the right position then you could be one of the lucky ones who get to hear it. My mom in law is a nurse and let us borrow her stethascope so that if i ever freak out when hes not moving i can try and listen in. (which usually ends up making me more paranoid because half the time i never find his heart beat lol) But try not to let it get to you if you cant find the heart beat. Sometimes its just your heart and it sucks. But youll get lots more chances to go to the doc and hear it. Good luck!
