A midwife tried to find my baby’s heartbeat at 18 weeks with a doppler and she couldn’t. She could hear the sound of the blood flowing through the placenta though (I think that is what you mean by fetal blood flow sound). Freaked me out a little bit, but i remembered they had the same problem when I was pregnant with my daughter (now nearly 2). I then went to my obstetrician a few weeks later and had a scan = all was fine. I am now 25 weeks pregnant.
My obstetrican said dopplers are reliant on the device being placed over the right part of the baby, so not to worry if you can’t hear the heartbeat. I know it is a little disconcerting though! Dopplers are usually more reliant after about 20 weeks I have heard.
Don’t panic as this has happened to me twice and it was all fine.
there could be 2 things with regards to the heartbeat,
1) you may have to prepare yourself for bad news.
2) the baby could have been laid in an awkward position which makes hearing the heartbeat very difficult, it does happen
what is the end of the sentence for the blood flow ?
You may have miscarried. By 16 weeks they should be able to hear a baby’s heartbeat through doppler. I don’t get what you mean by "fetal blood flow sound was"
Im sure your OB schedualed you for an u/s very soon. Did they not tell you what might be going on? I am suprised that your OB didnt send you over to the hospital maternity for a full exam, or do an u/s right there in his office. Keep all of you appointments, and if for some reason they did not schedual you for an u/s, call and find out what in the heck is going on and when are they going to figure out whats going on. Try not to worry to much, your OB should know what they are doing. Just go by what ever they told you and stay calm and pray. God bless you.
